BACKGROUND

One of the Bay of Plenty's largest infrastructure projects, the Baypark to Bayfair upgrade (B2B Link) is being developed in four stages, with Stage 4 to be completed mid 2021.

THE CHALLENGE

To update our previous B2B upgrade video to show changes to traffic flow, construction phases and the integration of a new pedestrian underpass.

THE WORK

Braincell were commissioned to visually showcase the construction phases in detail and highlight the new traffic flow for each of the four stages.

With the first B2B Link visualisation completed before works began last year, we then created a second visualisation using a combination of DEM Earth, 3D animation and 2D motion graphics to display all construction phases and new traffic flows. This involved the integration of additional components including the new pedestrian underpass, ongoing expansion, signalised roundabout and flyover construction at Bayfair; flyover construction at SH2/SH29 at Te Maunga with the inclusion of temporary Bailey bridges during construction, along with the improved SH29/Truman Lane roundabout and walkway/cycleway.

During each construction phase the video highlights the new traffic flow aimed to achieve minimal disruption as well as defined work areas ensuring safe traffic movement for each stage while construction is carried out. Along with the standard length animation, a shorter version was produced for social media as well as 18 x high resolution 3D stills showing each stage for NZTA to use in presentations and on public information days.

“The info days were positive with over 300 people attending (which is good considering it was school holidays!). The animation looked great, and people got a lot out of the A0 sized 3D stills from the animation - they loved pouring over the detail. Thank you for making it happen!”
