BACKGROUND

TCC wanted to visualise the new bike lane project proposed for the upcoming Totara Street upgrade.

THE CHALLENGE

Produce a virtual fly-through with integrated cyclists, pedestrians and traffic along side plans of the specified route.

THE WORK

We were commissioned to create a virtual fly-through to help sell the vision of the proposed upgrade.

Using a combination of 2D and 3D, the animation was storyboarded before we started modelling, texturing and laying out the roads, cycleways, pathways, rest areas and vegetation. Once each section had been completed they were joined together to construct a longer area which covered each design aspect of the proposed cycle lane and safety upgrade. Using this model, simulations were created for the cyclists and pedestrians, along with a vehicle simulation including heavy vehicles that needed to give way to pedestrians along the route. A down-view of the route was developed to show in detail the path that cyclists will take along Totara street. This involved satellite imagery, 2D animation edited together with music to bring the project to life.

“This is fantastic. I’m very, very impressed...it is very true to the brief of ‘looking slick’.”
